Brother HL-L2350DW Mono Laser Printer Review

Let start with where the Brother HL-L2350DW sits in the market place.  In the world of mono laser printers, this model is definitely an entry level product.  But don’t let that be an instant put off to you.  You don’t always have to spend more to get what you need out of a printer.  The brother offers fast print speeds and respectable print quality at a very attractive price point.

You can spend more on a laser printer of course, and that will typically buy you something that is more efficient and cheaper to run if you have high print volumes, so bear that in mind.  But the L2350DW will make a good companion to a low print volume home based or small office environment.

Functionality

This model sits at the lower end of the Brother range and correspondingly lacks some features you’ll find as you move up the ranks.  Its paper handling is limited to one 250-page tray, and  the printer has a maximum monthly duty cycle of 15,000 pages, with a recommended print volume of up to 2,000 pages.

As you’d expect, you can hook this printer up to your Wi-Fi network or attach it to a single printer via a USB cable.  However there is no network port available in this model.  Third party protocols such as AirPrint and Google Cloud Print are supported.

This is fairly standard for the price point but if you are willing to spend more you will get a printer that can go further.

The HL-L2350DW weighs in at 8.3 kg when loaded with its cartridge and has a small  438 (W) x 283 (D) x 519 (H) mm footprint making it very suitable for the home office.  The control panel is on the minimal side with just power, Wi-Fi, Back, OK (Enter), Plus and Minus, and Go buttons to control all of the printers functionality.

Print Quality

The official specification rates this as a 32 page per minute printer.  That’s not bad going for the price but the closer competitors aren’t that far off and you can get faster if you pay more.  Professional testers have found that real life experience matches, or even exceeds, the official line.  Printing out a detailed 4-by-6-inch photograph will take about 12 seconds, again matching expectations for a mono laser printer.

The overall print quality stands up to scrutiny too.  Remember this device is not designed for professional glossy brochures but even so, the print looks good.  Text looked well-shaped and legible even with small fonts.  This model will have no problems with homework or letters.
